Lady Lynda considered getting her MSW to help the minimally impaired in her community. With her college degree pondered how to help her fellow humanity. She saw an ad in her local newspaper for a meetup of the Amateur Armchair Psychiatric Society. She noticed it was later that night. She was determined to go to the meetup to see if they were a valid, qualified group to help with info on obtaining her MSW. When she arrived she noticed next to the Home Sweet Home sign, she noticed the charter of the group. It stated "One doesn't need the mumbo jumbo of professional psychiatry to label somebody. Just good old fashion common sense will suffice" She noticed the pipe smoking tweedy jacket, Ivy league looking middle aged men and the lone beatnick looking woman with her long brunette hair parted in the middle, her drab grey turtle neck wool sweater, her Levis and her Egyptian Pewter Ankh necklace down her graceful swan like neck. &l On the wide angle screen in front of them are TV late show interviews with show business people. The men and woman judiciously study these videos and show biz gossip sites like biologist study white rats. Lady Lynda quite bewildered, suddenly proposed the question Was it fair to diagnose a celeb when none of you are qualified mental health professionals. Especially when the extent of what is known is what is read in the gossip columns? ""The man snapped "Man are you being picky? responded one of the other male members. One of the men commented she brought up some rather interesting points. He said he wished would of thought of that. He wondered if they should consider their speculative position. He added it was just a wild thought. Then he mentioned he was pondering if Courtney Love was a case of Borderline personality disorder, Russell Crowe, antisocial personality disorder, Mel Gibson, explosive personality disorder and Joaquin Phoenix if he was either bipolar, schizophrenic, depressed or social anxiety disorder. He added that what he said was merely ponderings on his part. It wasn't like there was proof or hard evidence" The other man there asked if he was referring to the trainwreck interview Feb 2009 with David Letterman" His colleague replied "Yes and some other stuff too. Like the frog in his hair remark Who or what did one believe? The man put down his pipe and told the female guest that gossip magazines were deemed to be a reliable source of information. On the other hand the bulk of what they did was merely speculation he added. The man replied they were making a sport out of psychologically labeling. No harm was meant. After all he reminded her they were amateur armchair psychiatrist. It was meant to be an intellectual exercise. Its the one time non experts are free to theorize. To put on their thinking caps without the burden of a formal education, or for that matter logical thinking that goes with getting a relevant degree. They were the one true fair minded mental health club. Here anyone and everyone can label anyone with a psychiatric label. They remarked it was so unfair professionals with Phds, MDs, or DOs be the ones who can diagnose. Diagnosis for people, by the people and of the people to coin a phrase. Diagnosis for the common man... and women, the lone woman besides Lady Lynda commented. Lady Lynda wondered how they could help her gain insight in getting her MSW. to be cont.
